The "Tic Tac" UFO event is a well-known UAP (unidentified aerial phenomena) sighting that occurred in 2004 off the coast of California. It involved US Navy pilots from the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group who encountered a mysterious object.
**Description of the Event:**
* For several days, advanced radar on the USS Princeton had been detecting mysterious objects at altitudes of over 80,000 feet.
* On November 14, 2004, two F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jets were diverted to investigate a radar contact.
* The lead pilot, Commander David Fravor, and another pilot, Alex Dietrich, saw a disturbance in the water and a white, tic-tac-shaped object hovering about 50 feet above the waves.
* The object had no wings, no visible propulsion, and was estimated to be about 40 feet long.
* When Fravor flew toward it, the object mirrored his movements and then accelerated at an incredible speed, disappearing from view.
**The FLIR Image:**
* After Fravor's encounter, another pilot was able to record the object using a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera.
* The video, known as the "FLIR" video, shows an apparent heat signature consistent with a physical object.
* The Pentagon formally released this video, along with two others ("GIMBAL" and "GOFAST"), in April 2020.
There has been extensive debate and analysis of the event and the video footage. Skeptical investigators have suggested the videos may show a distant plane or an optical effect, while witnesses, including highly trained military personnel, maintain that they saw something they couldn't explain.
